The O'Shaughnessy Society's membership is open to anyone with an interest in the history or genealogy of the ancient Irish family of O'Shaughnessy.

The Society actively seeks to preserve the history, genealogy and artifacts of the O'Shaughnessys. Artifacts associated with the O'Shaughnessy sept include: Fiddaun and Ardimullivan Castles and the O'Shaughnessy Chapel at Kilmacduagh Monastery, all in Southern Galway. Preservation is currently ongoing at Ardmullivan.
The O'Shaughnessy Society sponsors a bi-annual family rally in Ireland in even years.
