Rates

Indexers commonly charge by the indexable page, although per entry, per project or even hourly rates can be arranged. An indexable page is a page that the indexer is expected to read, analyze and index. Often front matter, bibliographies and glossaries are not considered indexable. When you contact me for a quote, this will be one of the questions I'll ask. For the most part, the price range is $3.00 to $5.00 per indexable page. Factors that influence the rate include:

length of the book type of book and complexity of the subject matter density of material (number of entries per page) number of indexes required page size and layout due date

Many of these same factors will influence the delivery time. Delivery options: Indexes are usually delivered via e-mail in electronic file format. Delivery charges for hard copies or CD's will be added to the invoice.
