GPS Golf Maps

Attached are several Central Ohio golf course maps that can be downloaded to handheld Garmin GPS units.

If there is a golf course that you would like to see included in the download list, then let me know.
I've added some courses in North Carolina and Virgina around some fishing lakes.
Read the links below for information on how to import maps and display the data into your gps unit.

How far is it to...

The most-asked question on the golf course is, "How far is it to the hole?". Some courses mark distance-to-green yardage with colored stones buried in the fairway or marked on the cartpath or sprinkler heads. These are a great help for club selection unless you can't find a marker. Like- in the woods, in a dogleg, or between markers. They don't help if you want to layup in front of a water hazard or you need to know the distance to a fairway bunker.

Trying a new course?

Ever look at the scorecard's course diagram and wonder who's 6-year-old drew it? GPS maps are based on aerial photography of the actual course. So hazards are shown in their correct location and doglegs are drawn to scale.

Cart-mounted GPS

Some golf courses are offering GPS on the carts. These units are very accurate and will even allow you to order a sandwich from the clubhouse. So unless your cart driver won't drive into the deep rough to find your ball, this system is well worth the additional price that they charge.

NEW!- Make your own maps!

If you can trace an outline, you can now use this website tool to map your favorite course. Click on the "Create a Map" link at the top of the page and follow the instructions under the "help" button. The tool uses Google's aerial maps as a background. Use your mouse to click points on the map and convert them into shapes for the fairways, greens, hazards... whatever you draw will show up on your GPS.

Garmin GPS download maps

Try out these Garmin-based digital map image files on your GPS to give you exact distance to the green, doglegs, sand traps, water hazards, or any other course feature. The image maps are designed to work with Garmin GPS mapping units, such as the Garmin 76S, Legend, Venture HC, or Vista, and the Alan Map 500.
