GOLD COURSE -- In 1977 the Gold Course at Bay Tree Golf Plantation, with its slightly rolling terrain and tree-lined fairways, gained national attention as host of the LPGA Championship with NBC broadcasting the play of the world's top lady professionals. In 1999 it was selected the Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year. After that recognition it went steadily downhill, but they renovated their greens, which was a big help. Golfers should be aware that virtually all of the courses along the low-lying Highway 9 corridor have problems with “soggy” conditions and “cart paths only” are almost the norm. Green Course – Currently; this is the best of the three courses there. Twice the site of the PGA Tour's qualifying school, the Green winds through the Low Country forest. The architectural duo of George Fazio and Russell Breeden collaborated to create this traditional tract. The par 4, 13th hole on the Green was among the Top 18 Golf Holes in Myrtle Beach in the 1997 Silver Course–Wide fairways; undulating greens and tree-lined approaches characterize this parklands-style layout. The Silver is the newest of the three Bay Tree courses. The front 9 is mostly wide open with a little water in play on several holes, while the back 9 makes use of doglegs and small rolling hillocks to penalize errant shots. Amenities/Facilities: ?. Location: Located on Highway 9 approximately one mile on right side of junction of Highways 17, 9 & 90. (NORTH MAP) |
